Kingdom of Sivi lay in present-day Balochistan, the southwestern region of Pakistan. A region where the soil even today refuses to be trampled by an oppressor. The land is as defiant as it was 2,300 years ago. From Sivi to Sibi the name got distorted by the winds of time. Historians also called it Balish, Bashkal and Walishtan. During Alexander’s campaign in 326 BCE, historians noted Seboi (Sivi) as a formidable area. Mahabharata mentions that once King Shivi protected a dove from a hawk and gave flesh from his thigh to satiate the hawk’s hunger. In the Buddhist text, Sibi Jataka, it is said that Lord Indra and Brahma who disguised themselves as hawk and dove to test King Shivi’s kindness.
